The wall I sit in front of makes me think a lot. I don’t get very distracted here. It really needs some art, or a map or a whiteboard on it or I am told. A cognitive controller to either inspire or collect what I am working on or hope to get to in the future. There is a skylight that lights up this wall. The light that hits the wall is therefore harsh. Shadows play around as the day passes so what I am looking at is also animated. To prevent that we have a temporary covering on top…

la caída de los condenados

I wouldn’t want to call it journaling, but it is something I picked up along the way from conversations at the Roam Book Club. It is an attempt to commit to writing every day. Kate suggested this in the closing session of RBC4. Something of a particular length you produce a habit. I have never kept a diary. I am not the kind of person who randomly writes my feelings. I can’t seem to do that. They somehow don’t exist in the thought stream. I prefer Orwell over Didion. I write mostly to get all imaginings about architecture and its…

The “Western” is no longer our exclusive domain.
It is the first time in 3,000 years that architecture has a non-white avant-garde. Singapore Songlines, S.M.L.XL, PG. 1013, 1044

There are several avenues to probe Project Japan as a space of inquiry. In the context of these reviews OMAMO’s investigation about the east, this work is a definitive highlight. It also limits the possibilities of Koolhaas’s inquiries on big buildings and here, big buildings of the east. Metabolism is violently visionary. Events to define the effort of a national spatial reconfiguring exercise begins with the 1960 World Design Conference in Tokyo…

that building where bamboo is used as formwork

the server

I got in late for this session. the Googler (who I think is Andrew) was leaving the room. Show from that point on I christen it the second part. The ongoing chatter is on formwork in bamboo and what it looks like when concrete and bamboo meet. It is something like that moment when you get into a movie theatre midway. I am not sure what I have missed. They are discussing a bunch of buildings together so there is the noise that I need to convert to signals. I sometimes, in other servers had problems getting out of these…

Jinan as you can see gets really annoyed when anyone brings up critical thinking. I have tried to explain during several instances that critical thinking, the context I am using it is distinct from the situation that he sees it from. My attempt with the linked second essay is to continue the position on learning through conversations and now here introducing the idea of the discussion.

Words, as I have proposed, are something Jinan uses quite loosely therefore a result of my attempts to learn from Jinan ‘Reimagining Architecture as a Cognitive Space’ — from Product to Process’, means different…

rethinking foundation_n group conversation, december 2020

I have never met Jinan nor he me. I know him from a WhatsApp group, that they manage. I did not know of him before that, a year back that is. My only experience of him is through the chats we exchange. I may have in a sense only argued with him. Not because I disagree with him but in some places especially his positions on architecture it comes off as quite misinformed.

The main reason on the group I think we get into arguments is that people understand words differently. What I have gleaned is different professions understand words…

Abstract, came after the text fell in place. It is not very necessary to have it here but some extra words seem to linger in the head and it needs some space. This is the origin of this abstract. Just like you don’t always wish for rain especially when you have to go somewhere. Writing about rain didn’t happen out of any urgency but it's something that happened. It’s much like writing about snow or the clouds, both are forms of water but not water in itself. You don’t need to write about experiencing it but you do it for…

Inspired by _ Marc Koenig’s 100 Roam Tips | Beginner to Advanced Roam Research Guide the aim of the text is to review personal progress made in learning Roam Research. Yes, it’s an expensive note-taking app you need to actually learn how to use it effectively. The teaching of it happens around a community divided between slack, discord, and youtube. Productivity or its aspiration requires an investment at varying levels. There are times when notetaking does feel like a form of procrastination.

The original title of this text was 40 days learning Roam, notetaking, and digital productivity; thinking about writing…
